
Kernels Finish Sweep of Chiefs with 4-2 Win

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Kernels defeated the Peoria Chiefs 4-2 on Tuesday night, completing a 4-game sweep.
Travis Harrison recorded a fielder's choice RBI in the bottom of the 1st to get the scoring started and put the Kernels in front 1-0.
Peoria tied the game in the 2nd as Jordan Walton came around to score from second on an error by Kernels shortstop Ryan Walker. The Kernels got two runs, back, however, in the bottom half of the 2nd. Walker and Jeremias Pineda both scored in the frame on Joel Licon's sharp single to right field. Five batters reached base in the inning.
Juan Herrera singled to lead off the 7th and eventually came around to score for the Chiefs, decreasing their deficit to 3-2. With the bases loaded and 1 out, Nick Martini's grounder to second resulted in a fielder's choice RBI.
Mike Gonzales smashed a solo home run in the 8th that nearly hit the video board in right center field. The long ball is the third of the season for Gonzales.
Miguel Sulbaran went 6 innings in the start for the Kernels, his most since being aquired from the Dodgers organization on August 14. Sulbaran ( allowed one unearned run on five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Christian Powell threw 2 innings in relief, allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Dallas Gallant pitched a scoreless and hitless 9th for his first save.
Peoria starter Silfredo Garcia ( exited after 6 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits while walking and striking out two. Brady Adamek followed with 1 inning, retiring the side in order. Joe Donofrio allowed the home run to Gonzales in his 1 inning.
