BELOIT, WI - Beloit Snappers first baseman Matt Olson has been named Midwest League Player of the Week for the period of August 19-25th. During that time, Olson raked to the tune of a .379 batting average and pounded out 10 extra base hits, including five homers. Those five homers were the second most in minor league baseball during this past week.

The first baseman's week began with a three-for-four performance against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers that included a homer, a pair of doubles and three RBIs. After another homer the next day, Olson went deep twice against Kane County on the 21st. Overall, he drove in runs in six of the week's seven games, totaling 12, and put together four multi-hit games.

Matt Olson is from Atlanta, Georgia and was taken by the Oakland Athletics with the 47th pick of the first round in the 2012 draft. Olson is the fourth Snappers player to claim one of the Midwest League's weekly awards in 2013. Second baseman Christopher Bostick was honored as the Player of the Week for June 10-16. Pitcher Seth Streich was named Pitcher of the Week for his performance from June 17-23. Most recently, catcher Nick Rickles took home the Player of Week award for the week of July 22-28.
