
Kernels and Twins announce series of roster moves

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce a series of roster moves before today's 12:05 PM game with Clinton: OF Akil Baddoo has been activated from the 7-day DL, RHP Melvi Acosta and RHP Jordan Balazovic join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training, RHP Moises Gomez has been assigned to Elizabethton, and RHP Nick Brown and C Daniel Banuelos have been placed on the 7-day DL. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Baddoo went on the DL back on May 21st. He has played 35 games for the Kernels this season, batting .227 with 2 HR and 10 RBI. He also has drawn 34 walks and has 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts. He was selected by the Twins in lottery round B (74th overall) in the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Salem (GA) HS.
Acosta joined the Kernels on April 27th and made one start against Quad Cities. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on September 29, 2015.
The Twins selected Balazovic in the 5th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of St. Martin Secondary School in Canada. He made 10 appearances (three starts) for the GCL Twins in 2017, posting a 1-3 record and 4.91 ERA. In 40.1 IP, he allowed 47 hits and 25 runs (22 earned) with 20 walks and 29 strikeouts.
Banuelos goes on the DL with a lower back strain and Brown goes on the DL with a right calf strain.
Baddoo, Acosta and Balazovic are all active and available for today's 12:05 PM game with Clinton. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL, one player on the suspended list and one player on the military leave list.
The Kernels are in the midst of a nine-game, seven-day homestand that continues today against the Clinton LumberKings at 12:05 PM with the gates opening at 11:00 AM. The current homestand continues through Thursday, May 31st.
