Taugner Stalls Cougar Offense

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 4-3, in the finale of a four-game series at Northwestern Medicine Field on Monday afternoon.

The Cougars (25-22) received a lead off single from Gabriel Maciel in the first inning. Jazz Chisholm followed with a double to put runners at second and third. The next batter, Yoel Yanqui, flied a ball to center field, driving in the game's first run. The throw on to the infield kicked away from third baseman Gilbert Lara, allowing Chisholm to score from second and make it 2-0 Cougars. In the top of the second, Wisconsin (23-28) received an RBI single from Gilbert Lara and a sacrifice fly from Brent Diaz to tie the game, 2-2. In the bottom of the second, Eduardo Diaz led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out and scored to make it 3-2 Cougars on Joey Rose's RBI fielder's choice.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Timber Rattlers loaded the bases with two outs after Pat McInerney walked, Zach Clark doubled and Devin Hariston walked. Joantgel Segovia gave Wisconsin the lead, 4-3, with a two-run scoring single.

Cougar starter Mack Lemieux (1-4) tossed five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, with eight strikeouts and four walks, taking the loss. Juan Torres hurled three no-hit innings. Carlos Bustamante worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning.

Wisconsin starter Christian Taugner (1-4) pitched a career-high seven innings to earn the win. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out five and walking none. Cody Beckman earned the two-inning save, holding the Cougars to no runs on no hits.

The Cougars' hit the road for an eight-game road trip, beginning with a double header in Beloit on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
