Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
August 29, 2006 - Tuesday's game between the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Burlington Bees was suspended in the top of the second inning due to unplayable field conditions. The score was tied, 1-1, and there were two out and a runner on first with Burlington at bat.
A sudden downpour of rain caused the umpires to halt the game. The tarp crew was ready and responded immediately, but were able to only cover about two-thirds of the infield before the tarp became too heavy to move. The first base area and around home plate remained uncovered as approximately 1.25 inches of rain fell in roughly 30 minutes.
The game will be resumed at 6 pm on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium and completed as a 9-inning game. Wednesday's scheduled game will follow 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game and will be shortened to 7 innings.
Fans that had tickets for Tuesday's game in the Premier, Club, Plaza and Lawn seating areas may exchange their tickets for tomorrow's or Thursday's game, as they are the final two home games of the 2006 regular season. Tickets for the Mezzanine or Pavilion seating areas MAY NOT be exchanged.
Fans must also exchange their tickets before going through the turnstiles and tickets may ONLY be exchanged in person - they cannot be exchanged over the phone.
The Kernel Ticket Office opens at 10 am on Wednesday morning.
