Kane County Cougars News Release

Davenport, IA - After getting rained out Monday night, the Kane County Cougars were swept in a doubleheader Tuesday night against the Swing of the Quad Cities, losing 4-3 and 13-4 at John O'Donnell Stadium. The main highlight for the Cougars was a three-run homer in Game 2 by league MVP Jeff Baisley, who, with 107 RBIs, moved into solo possession of first place on the franchise's all-time single-season RBI list.

The Cougars were down 7-0 after the first inning of Game 2, as starter Ron Madej gave up six runs and recorded just one out before exiting. Joel Posey allowed one more and another in the second for an 8-0 deficit.

Then with two outs in the third, Chad Boyd walked, Isaac Omura singled and Baisley smashed his three-run shot to left for an 8-3 affair. Baisley, with 22 home runs, sits in sole possession of third place on that single-season Cougars list.

Matt Sulentic's RBI single in the sixth was the only other highlight for the Cougars in Game 2, as the Swing totaled 15 hits and cruised to the win. Madej (2-7) suffered the defeat, and Jason Motte (1-0) grabbed the relief win for Quad Cities.

The Cougars trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning of the first game when Anthony Recker cracked a run-scoring double and 3-1 in the sixth when Omura blasted a two-run homer to make it 3-3. The deciding run came in the bottom half off Branden Dewing when the Swing used a squeeze bunt to plate Tyler Green for a 4-3 count. Dewing (0-2) took the loss when Quad Cities closer Chris Perez notched his 11th save and helped Jon Mikrut (3-1) pick up the win.

The Cougars (37-27) and Swing (39-24), possible first-round playoff oppoents, battle again Wednesday night at 6:30 CT when Joe Piekarz (8-6, 3.37) faces Adam Ottavino (1-3, 4.08).
