Dayton Dragons News Release
South Bend, IN - The Dayton Dragons (30-31, 65-66) and South Bend Silver Hawks (37-24, 70-57) were rained out on Monday night at Coveleski Stadium, forcing the two teams into back-to-back doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday. Those four games, combined with the series finale on Thursday and the final home stand over the weekend, will cause the Dragons to play nine games in seven days while trying to make a late push for the second half Eastern Division Wild Card spot. As of the end of the day on Monday, the Dragons were 3.5 games behind the Fort Wayne Wizards for the wild card spot.
Dayton has played back-to-back doubleheaders one other time this season, when they swept four games at the Burlington Bees on May 1st and 2nd. Overall, the Dragons are 10-2 in doubleheader games this season, while the Silver Hawks are just 2-2.
Tuesday's doubleheader will begin at 6:00 PM and will be broadcast live on 1410 ESPN Radio, with the pre game show beginning at 5:30 PM. The Dragons will send RHP Daniel Guerrero (4-4, 4.66 ERA) to the mound in game one, and newcomer RHP Luis Montano (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his Dragons debut as the starter in game two. The Silver Hawks counter with RHP Vincent Bongiovanni (6-2, 3.54 ERA) in game one, and LHP Forrest Cory (4-2, 2.24 ERA) in game two. All Dragons games are also carried on the internet at www.daytondragons.com.
Wednesday's doubleheader will also begin at 6 PM, with the Dragons throwing LHP Travis Wood (9-4, 3.97 ERA) in game one. The game two starter has not yet been determined, and the South Bend Silver Hawks have not yet released their probables. Thursday's series finale will begin at the regular time of 7 PM, with RHP Carlos Fisher (12-5, 2.86 ERA) scheduled to start for the Miami Valley's team.
The Dragons return home for the final series of the season on Friday night when they welcome in the division-leading West Michigan Whitecaps. The games on Friday and Saturday night will be televised live on "Dragons TV", Time Warner Cable Channel 25 beginning at 7 PM with legendary Reds player and broadcaster Joe Nuxhall serving as a guest commentator. After Sunday's afternoon game, the Dragons close out the regular season on Monday, September 4, with a special Labor Day start time of 2 PM.
