Comstock Park, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts used a two-out, ninth inning rally to take a 7-4 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. The win clinches a winning campaign for the Lugnuts this season.

With the score tied 4-4 in the ninth, Luke Hetherington doubled down the right field line to put two runners in scoring position with two outs. After Jason Armstrong walked, Jacob Butler delivered a single to center field that plated two runs to give the Lugnuts a 6-4 lead. Joey Metropoulos's single to right scored another run to extend the advantage to 7-4.

Lansing escaped early trouble in the first inning when the Whitecaps loaded the bases with no men out but failed to score as Sean Stidfole worked himself out of the jam.

The Lugnuts took a 1-0 lead in the third frame when Anthony Garibaldi smacked a solo homer to left field. It was his second longball in as many nights.

Lansing put three more on the board in the fifth. Garibaldi singled to left with two men on, and Jesus Gonzalez scored on an error by Justin Justice to make it 2-0. Butler added a two-run single to double the lead to 4-0. Butler finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBI.

The Whitecaps put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth and plated two more in the sixth. Justin Justice laced a two-run single to right field to cut the lead to 4-3.

West Michigan tied the game in the eighth when Justice reached on a single, stole second, and scored when Jason Armstrong committed a throwing error to make it 4-4.

Paul Phillips (5-2) got the win for the Lugnuts, throwing the final two frames and allowing one unearned run.

Ricky Steik (3-4) suffered the loss for the Whitecaps, allowing the deciding three runs in the ninth.

Lansing (69-62, 29-35) and West Michigan (83-48, 42-22) will continue the series on Wednesday evening. Hector Delgadillo (3-0, 3.38) will hurl for the Lugnuts, while Matt O'Brien (1-1, 4.50) will take the hill for the Whitecaps. First pitch is 7:00 p.m.
