Kerins Leads To Win In 13

CRESTWOOD, IL- Alex Kerins drove in all three runs Wednesday night, including two in the top of the 13th innings, to lead the Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts in game two of a three-game series at Standard Bank Stadium.

The Grizzlies improve to 36-49 with the win, their second in the series. Windy City drops to 49-37.

Kerins put the Grizzlies on top for the first time in the game with a one-out double in the 13th that scored Joe Agreste from third, and Jareck West from first. Agreste had tripled and West had walked. With the Grizzlies trailing 1-0 in the top of the ninth and Agreste on at second, Kerins tied the game with a single to right field to even the score.

Kerins finished the night 3-6. Agreste was 2-6. West was 1-5. Peter Tountas was 2-6.

Joel Boeschen retired the side in order in the bottom of the 13th to earn his ninth save for the Grizzlies. Scott Kelly tossed two perfect innings in relief to earn his first professional win. He struck out three. Nate Melek started the game, and turned in a gem, despite settling for a no-decision. He worked eight innings, allowing a single run on two hits. He struck out six. Melek carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning Wednesday night.

The Grizzlies will go for the sweep Thursday night in Crestwood. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
