Washington Wild Things News Release
Avon, OH - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped another game to the Lake Erie Crushers by a score of 6-5 at All Pro Freight Stadium Wednesday.
The game was fraught with errors (three for Washington and two for Lake Erie).
Washington looked strong in the early innings scoring a run in the first, one in the second, and one in the fourth inning, giving the Wild Things a 3-0 lead.
But Lake Erie began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning. John Massarelli's Crushers scored in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings - tying and eventually taking a two run lead.
Washington battled back in the eighth inning to knot the score at five, and they were able to hold the Crushers in check until the bottom of the ninth inning when Gordon Gronkowski won the game with a walk off single.
Matt Sutton was four for four with two RBI and two stolen bases.
Relief pitcher Keith Meyer took the loss for Washington allowing two hits, one (earned) run and one (intentional) walk in one inning of work.
The Wild Things will meet the Crushers for the third and final game of the series Thursday night when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55 p.m. Washington returns to CONSOL Energy Park for a six game set September 1st - 6th.
