Homestand Notes

Halfway to Halloween: The Cougars are inviting fans to attend this Saturday's 5 p.m. "Halfway to Halloween" promotion, presented by Nicor. That afternoon, Elfstrom Stadium will hold costume contests, trick-or-treating for costumed children age 14 and under at various points around the ballpark, a pre-game Halloween parade on the field, and several more surprises to be revealed as Saturday nears. Fans can also meet members of the "Paranormal Cops" show, as shown on A&E. Tickets are available for Saturday's game, as well as all other games this homestand, by calling (630) 232-8811 or visiting www.kccougars.com.

Food Drive on Sunday: The Cougars welcome Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) to Elfstrom Stadium on Sunday to conduct a stadium-wide food drive, as fans that afternoon are encouraged to help out by bringing donations to the game. Headquartered in St. Charles, NIFB will accept shelf stable donations and will enter each donor into a raffle which will be drawn and announced during the game. NIFB feeds 500,000 people annually, and NIFB was named "Food Bank of the Year" by Feeding America, the nation's network of food banks.

Team/Alumni News: Former Cougar Dallas Braden ('04) pitched the 19th perfect game in major league history last Sunday. It was the first complete game in Braden's big league career and the historic outing required 109 pitches, 77 of which were strikes. The Midwest League can boast of having three alumni among the 19 pitchers who have thrown a perfect game in major league history: Braden, Mark Buerhle (Burlington, '99) and Kenny Rogers (Burlington, '84-'85). Braden was featured on David Letterman's Top 10 List last night and will grace the cover of Sports Illustrated this week...a pair of former Cougars, John Baker ('03) and Nate Robertson ('99-'00) were in town this week as part the Marlins series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Robertson picked up the win in Monday night's game. Tyson Ross, the 110th former Cougar to reach the major leagues, batted in an extra-inning game last night in the A's win over Texas - a game that Ross ultimately won for his first MLB victory. Ross said it was the first time he had batted in a game since high school and it was the first time an A's pitcher batted in a non-interleague game since 1995.

Rashun Dixon was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, retroactive to May 7, with a wrist injury. Pitcher Chris Mederos, who is currently on the disabled list, has flown home to rehabilitate his right shoulder sprain, and could possibly re-join the team later this season...Nino Leyja (15-for-36, .417) owns an eight-game hitting streak.
