Dragons Complete Sweep of TinCaps

Dayton, Ohio - Josh Garton drilled a three-run home run and Cincinnati native Tommy Nurre hit a home run on his first swing in a Dayton Dragons uniform as the Dragons defeated Fort Wayne 5-4 on Wednesday night before a crowd of 9,291 at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons completed a three-game sweep of the TinCaps and improved their home record in 2010 to 13-5. The Dragons are 16-17 overall.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning, the Dragons rallied to take the lead. Henry Rodriguez and Chris Richburg picked up back-to-back two-out singles and Garton followed with a three-run home run to right field, his third of the season, to make it 5-3. The Dragons held Fort Wayne to one more run over the final six innings for the win. Relievers Jason Braun, Blair Carson, and Donnie Joseph combined for four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

Fort Wayne took an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning against Dragons starting pitcher J.C. Sulbaran. The Dragons answered with two in the second. Andrew Means tripled with one out and scored on Shane Carlson's RBI ground out to make it 2-1. Nurre, a product of St. Xavier High School and Miami University in his first at-bat with the Dragons, then tied the game with a home run to left-center field.

Sulbaran (3-1) went the first five innings to earn the win. He allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) with two walks and six strikeouts. Joseph pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out the last two batters of the game, for his fifth save.

The Dragons travel to Midland, Michigan to begin a four-game series with the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Josh Ravin (1-2, 2.43) will start for Dayton against Matt Magill (0-0, 2.25). The next home game is Tuesday, May 18 against the Lansing Lugnuts.
