Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The TinCaps could not scrape together a rally after the 4th inning and lost to the Dayton Dragons, 5-4, Wednesday at Fifth Third Field. Jason Hagerty had two hits.

Fort Wayne again struggled against the Dayton bullpen; the TinCaps did not score after the 4th inning in the entire series and Dayton relievers fired 12.1 scoreless frames.

The TinCaps took the lead from the get-go as Everett Williams punched an RBI single to center to put the TinCaps ahead, 1-0. Williams moved to second on an errant pickoff throw by Dragons RHP J.C. Sulbaran, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Dragons tied it in the bottom of the 2nd. Shane Carlson's groundout plated Andrew Means, then Tommy Nurre belted a home run in his first at-bat for Dayton to deadlock the game at 2-2.

Fort Wayne took a lead in the top of the 3rd when Jonathan Galvez cracked an RBI double to the gap in left-center, plating Dean Anna to give the TinCaps a 3-2 lead.

Dayton bounced right back to take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd. With two outs, Henry Rodriguez singled to center on an 0-2 pitch. Chris Richburg followed with a single and Josh Garton lifted an 0-2 delivery over the right-field wall to put the Dragons ahead, 5-3.

The TinCaps plated a run in the top of the 4th on Wande Olabisi's two-out RBI double, but could not score again.

In the 6th, Fort Wayne ran itself out of the inning on a strikeout-throwout double play finishing at third base. In the 7th, the TinCaps had the tying run at second base with one out, but a groundout to third turned into a double play when the runner broke for third and was thrown out.

TinCaps LHP Mike Watt (2-3) took the loss while Sulbaran (3-1) notched the win and LHP Donnie Joseph fired a scoreless 9th inning to grab his fifth save.

The TinCaps have now lost six straight road games. Fort Wayne dropped 15-18 while Dayton improved to 16-17.

The TinCaps return to Parkview Field for a four-game series against the Lake County Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The TinCaps are 9-6 at home this year. Fort Wayne RHP Dexter Carter (1-3) draws the start.
