Kalamazoo wins over Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH - Recently assigned defenseman Yann Sauve didn't have to wait long to earn his first goal as a member of the Kalamazoo Wings (19-19-3-1). In his second game with the K-Wings, the Vancouver Canucks prospect scored 38 seconds into overtime to lift Kalamazoo past the division leading, Cincinnati Cyclones 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the U.S. Bank Arena.

End-to-end action, but neither team could score in opening 20 minutes. Kalamazoo, who outshot Cincinnati 14-5 in the period, receive their best scoring chances on a four-minute power-play generated by a Trevor Lewis high-stick to Aaron Clarke late in the period.

Held off the scoreboard for 32 minutes, the K-Wings broke through for a pair of goals two minutes apart midway in the second period. Kalamazoo grabbed the 1-0 lead with a power-play strike from Alexandre Mallet (2nd). Camping out in front of the net, Mallet swept in a Brian Bicek rebound 12:49 into the period.

Not wasting time, Kalamazoo extended their lead 1:56 later, when Dustin Cloutier (6th) split the defense and lifted a wrist shot just under the crossbar.

Kalamazoo's lead held until the third period, when Andrew Luciani (4th) and Mathieu Aubin (10th) each registered power-play goals two minutes apart to tie the game at 2-2.

Sauve's marker snapped an overtime drought for the K-Wings, who won their first overtime contest in four attempts (1-3) this season.

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Sunday, January 27th with a 3 p.m. face-off versus the Bakersfield Condors during Wendy's Kid Movie Day and a Family Hockey Day in the 'ZOO, presented by Consumers Credit Union, Bronson Orthopedic & Sports Medicine, Charter Media and MLive. During all Family Hockey Day's in the 'ZOO all kids eat FREE, fans can also participate in a post-game skate with the players and on January 27th, the first 500 kids will receive a FREE K-Wings goaltender mask on a stick, courtesy of Consumers Credit Union.

Following the game, the K-Wings will be showing Pixar short films. Sunday will mark the first time since the 2011 Kelly Cup Finals (Alaska) and the first time in the regular season that Kalamazoo will play a team from the Western Conference.

Single-game tickets for the 2012-2013 season are on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office. Ticket Office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays. To charge tickets by phone, please call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.

Tickets for all K-Wings home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 14 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and New Year's Eve game) are just $1 more.

Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance because tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).
