Ontario Reign News Release

LOVELAND, CO - The Ontario Reign (31-10-1-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, beat the Colorado Eagles (20-20-1-2) 5-3 at Budweiser Events Center on Saturday night. The win put the Reign ahead of the Alaska Aces by one point, pending the result of Alaska's Saturday night game against the San Francisco Bulls.

Brodie Sheahan was the first on the board snapping in a quick rebound off a Colton Yellow Horn shot from the top of the crease. Brock Sheahan also earned an assist. The Reign gave up a goal while shorthanded at the 18:13 mark of the first period but answered back to retake the lead 2-1. On his backhand, Yellow Horn hit both posts before the puck found the back of the net for his 33rd goal of the season. The tally marked a new Reign record for goals in a single season previously held by Greg Hogeboom in the 2009-10 season. Yellow Horn shot it in from the slot off a backhanded pass from Mario Lamoureux.

The Reign jumped to a 5-2 lead in the second stanza. Colorado's Dylan Hood tied the game 2-2 while on the power play. He brought the puck around the left circle and fired it in past Drew O'Connell from the slot. Ontario went on to score three goals in row. Justin Pender netted his first Reign goal at 9:49 when he had an open-net and rebounded it in. Derek Couture struck next while on the power play. As the Reign charged the Eagles end Couture picked up a rebound and scored between the skates of Jones. Brock Sheahan and Kyle Kraemer assisted the goal. The Reign's final goal of the period came from Yellow Horn at the 18:21 mark. Lamoureux and Burt kept the play in front of the Eagles cage and Burt found Yellow Horn at Jones' left post where he tucked the puck in past the goaltender.

In the final frame, after just eight seconds, the Eagles converted their second power-play goal of the night bringing the final score to 5-3 for the Reign's seventh straight victory. O'Connell won his third straight game saving 20 of 23 shots, Jones took his sixth straight loss stopping 28 of 33 shots.
