Alaska Bull-rushed in Third Period in 5-2 Loss to San Francisco

The San Francisco Bulls scored three unanswered third period goals to break away from the Alaska Aces and earn a 5-2 win from Sullivan Arena on Friday night. The Aces lost consecutive home games for the first time this season, and dropped to 31-11-2 on the season. The Aces and Bulls continue their three-game series on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The teams traded goals midway through the opening period with San Francisco striking first. Rob Kwiet beat Mark Guggenberger with a shortside slap shot from the left circle at 9:25 to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Alaska tied the score on a terrific play from Zach Harrison. Harrison walked around Kwiet and turnd in from the bottom of the right circle, scoring on a backhand from the crease at 11:51 to make it 1-1 after one period. The Aces outshot the Bulls 10-8 in the first period.

San Francisco once again took the lead in the second when Christian Ouellet scored off a two-on-one feed from Alex Tuckerman at 9:39. Chris Clackson answered for the Aces with a wrist shot from the high slot that went off the crossbar and in at 18:25. The Aces outshot the Bulls 10-7 in the period, and the game went into the third tied 2-2.

The Bulls pulled away in the third period with three straight goals for the victory. Jordan Clendenning redirected a shot past Guggenberger at 9:56 to break the tie and give San Francisco their third lead of the night. The Bulls then added to their lead when Ouellet scored his second of the night at 14:22. Cody Carlson finished the game with an empty net tally from his own zone at 19:45, completing the third period flurry.

Mark Guggenberger (16-6-2) made 26 saves on 30 shots in the loss. Taylor Nelson (5-7-2) made 23 saves on 25 shots in the win. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play and the Bulls were 0-2. Alaska was outshot by San Francisco 31-25 in the game.
