Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo started the week on Wednesday (3/2) morning, as they hosted the Flint Generals during the 2nd Annual Kalamazoo Public Schools Day presented by Culver's and Perry Harley-Davidson. The K-Wings started the game's scoring midway into the opening period, when forward Andrew Luciuk (11) snapped a shot past Flint's Dan McIntyre to give the K-Wings the 1-0 lead. Flint answered back a few minutes later with a goal from Bobby Reynolds (22) to tie the game at 1-1. After a scoreless second period, the K-Wings regained the lead in the third period, when rookie forward Sean Starke (15) blasted a shot from the left circle to give the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. Flint fired back with three unanswered goals, all off the stick of Mike Kinnie (29,30,31), to give the Generals the lead and the eventual 4-2 victory over the K-Wings.

The K-Wings remained on home ice on Friday (3/4) with a battle against the Central Division leading Muskegon Fury. Kalamazoo used youth and speed to grab a 2-0 lead, as rookie forward Mike Manley (9) and 2nd year pro Tim Turner (20) each lit the lamp to give the K-Wings the lead. Muskegon rallied back with two goals of their own to tie the game at 2-2. The contest headed into a shootout, where the K-Wings prevailed by outscoring the Fury 3 to 1, giving Kalamazoo the 3-2 shootout victory over Muskegon. The victory was the first this season by the K-Wings over the Fury.

Kalamazoo concluded the week on Saturday (3/5) at home against the Quad City Mallards. Quad City scored the game's first three goals and never looked back, as the Mallards defeated the K-Wings by the final of 5-2. Joe Dusbabek led all Mallards in points with three (all assists). Kalamazoo received goals from Tyson Turgeon (8) and Kevin Kotyluk (22). Kotyluk also led all K-Wings in points with two (1 goal, 1 assist)

Fast Forward

The K-Wings will hit the ice twice this week. Kalamazoo's first game will be on Friday (3/11), as the K-Wings host the Port Huron Beacons. Kalamazoo is a perfect 5-0-0 against Port Huron this season. Kalamazoo will conclude the week with game five of their six-game home stand. The K-Wings will host the Motor City Mechanics on AAA of Michigan Safety Night. The K-Wings are 4-2-0 against their intra-state rivals this season. Prior to the game, the K-Wings will host their first-ever Guns ‘N' Hoses Game between the Battle Creek Police Department and Kalamazoo Public Safety.
