
Komets net two shutouts and six points from road tour

Fort Wayne, IN â The Komets completed week 20 of the 2004-05 UHL campaign holding first place in the Western Conference with a 40-20-4 record for 84 points to lead 2nd-place Rockford by 3. The Komets begin week 21 after finishing a 5-game road swing that started with a 4-0 ambush of the Generals in Flint Sunday, Feb. 27. -UHL Standings- -Komets Team Stats-
The Komets then turned east for 4 games beginning with a 3-0 shutout at Richmond Tuesday night. Komet goalie Kevin St. Pierre recorded his 4th shutout of the season and 2nd straight after stoning Flint Sunday. St. Pierre stopped all 29 shots faced for his 15th UHL and 24th career whitewashing. In addition to the shutout, P.C. Drouin (LW) netted his first hat trick of the season leading the Komets to their 3rd straight road win. Wingers Sean Venedam and Chris Grenville each contributed 2 assists. It also was Venedam's 200th Fort Wayne career game.
Wednesday the Komets dropped a 7-3 decision in Danbury. Troy Neumeier (D), Tom Nelson (C) and Andy Townsend (D) each tallied Fort Wayne marks. Goalie Tyler Masters took the loss making 28 saves on 35 shots. Adam Lewis (C) reached his 100th career point with an assist in the match.
Friday the Komets visited Elmira and turned back the Jackals 7-2 to become the first UHL team this season to reach 40 wins. St. Pierre registered his 26th victory of the season and 12th straight win on the road making 33 saves. Jonathan Goodwin (RW) and Dustin Virag (RW) each notched a pair while Colin Chaulk (C), Grenville and Neumeier also contributed goals. Grenville added 2 assists for his 4th 3-pointer of the season. The Komets finish the season series 2-0-2 against Elmira.
Saturday the road tour came to an end with a 4-2 setback at Adirondack. The Komets fell to 2-1-0 against the Frostbite for the year with one meeting remaining when Adirondack visits April 3rd for the last Fort Wayne home game of the regular season. Nelson posted both Komet goals for his 3rd 2-goal outing of the year. Netminder St. Pierre, playing his 39th game of the season, made 19 saves in his 399th career appearance.
This week the Komets stay home for 3 games on coliseum ice. Wednesday the Port Huron Beacons visit for a 7:30pm faceoff. Friday the Kansas City Outlaws come to town for an 8pm match. Sunday the Komets entertain Richmond in the final meeting of the season against the RiverDogs at 5pm.

Venedam and Chaulk each skate 200th Komet game, Lewis notches #100 .....Sean Venedam (LW) skated his 200th Fort Wayne career game Tuesday night 3/1/05 in Richmond and Colin Chaulk (C) made his 200th Fort Wayne appearance Saturday 3/5/05 at Adirondack. Adam Lewis (C) posted his 100th career point (assist) Wednesday 3/2/05 at Danbury.
Looking for 400: Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has made 399 career appearances (including 96 as a Komet) and has posted 99 UHL career wins.

UHL Colonial Cup Playoff Watch.....the 2005 UHL Colonial Cup playoffs will consist of 8 teams. The top 2 teams in each conference shall be seeded 1-3 (based on points). Seeds 4-6 will be the 2nd-place conference teams (based on points). The 2 teams with the next highest point total clinch the remaining 2 spots (7 and 8). Based on point-percentage, since all teams have not played an even amount of games at this point, the Komets would be seed number 3 and have home-ice advantage against Danbury (seed number 6) in a best-of-7 first round series (Danbury and Kalamazoo currently have identical records. Danbury would win the tie-breaker with head-to-head wins of 2-1-0 vs 1-1-1).
Tie Breakers: 1) Wins. 2) Head-to-head wins. 3) Head-to-head fewest regulation losses. 4) Head-to-head most goals for. 5) Head-to-head fewest goals against. 6) Coin toss.
Season Ticket Exchange night Wednesday.....each season the Komets offer Season Ticket Exchange nights on various home dates. Season ticket holders can redeem their unused tickets from previously scheduled Komet home games for tickets on Season Ticket Exchange Nights. This Wednesday night is another Exchange Night as the Komets host the Port Huron Beacons at 7:30. Unused season tickets can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
