Another week another split for the Rockford IceHogs in Kansas City. The IceHogs and Outlaws wrapped up their season series in KC over the weekend with each team winning a game. Goaltender Michel Robinson set a franchise record with his 27 win of the season with his win on Thursday. Another two game week on the horizon for the Hogs highlighted by the only visit of the season by the Elmira Jackals.
Thursday, March 3: Rockford IceHogs 4 at Kansas City Outlaws 2
Sunday, March 6: Rockford IceHogs 3 at Kansas City Outlaws 4: For the third time this season the Rockford IceHogs played a two game series against the Kansas City Outlaws in Kansas City, Missouri, and for the third time the club was sent home with a weekend split. Rockford dropped a 4-3 decision to the Outlaws at Kemper Arena Sunday afternoon after coughing up a 2-0 lead. The Outlaws were led by winger Joe Seroski's hat-trick despite the Hogs jumping out to the two-goal lead in the first period. Center J.C. Ruid tallied on the power play at 5:54, putting Rockford on the board. Winger J.F. Dufour then netted the Hogs second marker of the afternoon, one-second after another power play expired at 15:55. Kansas City would then score four unanswered goals to nab the win. Winger Dan Rohanna snuck one past Hogs goalie Michel Robinson at 3:11 of the second period to cut Rockford's lead in half. Seroski later fired in his first of three goals on the power play at the 6:13 mark of the middle period. In the third frame, Seroski chipped in his second goal of the game on the power play at 8:19 before scoring the eventual game winner at 11:50. Winger Bruce Watson made things interesting for Rockford beating Outlaws goalie Maxime Gingras at 16:55 of the third period.
Transactions
-Winger Mike Burgoyne was traded to the Motor City Mechanics on Tuesday, March 1 for future considerations.
-Defenseman Serge Visegorodcevs was signed on Thursday, March 3.
Bacon Bits:
Goaltender Michel Robinson set a new franchise record Thursday with his 27 win of the season.
Robinson now leads the league in minutes and appearances and is second in wins and shutouts.
For the first time all season, the IceHogs have played more road games then home games.
Rockford blew a two-goal lead Sunday for only the second time this season.
Rockford split their season series in Kansas City, with each team winning three games a piece.
Winger J.F. Dufour picked up his team leading 20 multi-point game on Sunday.
For the second straight week, the IceHogs will play only two games and will have Friday and Saturday off once again. Rockford will however, play five games during Week 22 in seven days.
The IceHogs will play six of their next eight games at home, beginning Wednesday against Quad City.
Rockford still leads the UHL with only two short-handed goals given up and have yet to give one up on the road.
The Hogs have accumulated 30 or more shots in seven straight games and have not given up more than 30 shots in four straight.
Hot Hog: Week 21
Center Miguel Lafleche: The Hogs rookie center had three assists in two games for Rockford during Week 20. Lafleche has been the IceHogs top rookie point scorer all season.
Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, March 9 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.. The Mallards return to Rockford for the first time in nearly three months. It's another PigOut Wednesday with the Hogs and the Rock Station, 104.9 FM, WXRX.
Sunday, March 13 vs. Elmira Jackals. The puck drops at 1:05 p.m. Elmira makes their first and only visit of the season on Sunday in the team's only match-up of the season at the Rockford MetroCentre.
