Mallards Continue Playoff Chase with 3-1-0 Week

Moline, IL – The Mallards won three of four this week to complete their last extended road trip of 2004-05. Quad City beat Kansas City, Motor City and Kalamazoo before losing a tight contest on Sunday in Muskegon. The three consecutive wins complete a five-game Mallards winning streak, the longest unbeaten stretch of the year for Quad City. Goaltender Robert Gherson earned the UHL Goaltender of the Week for his part in the Mallards win streak. Gherson went 3-0-0 last week with a 2.00 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.

This week, the Mallards head to Rockford on Wednesday to complete a stretch of five straight road games. On Saturday, the Mallards are back home for All Faiths Night vs. the Port Huron Beacons. On Family Fun-Day Sunday, the Mallards host Kansas City at The MARK.

Upcoming Promotions

· Saturday, March 12th vs. the Port Huron Beacons-All Faiths Night/Frank Pellico's Organ Music-7:00 p.m.

The Mallards welcome Church groups from throughout the Quad City area for All Faiths Night. Strongman Bud Jeffries will be on hand to perform feats of strength and share his inspirational message. Chicago Blackhawks organist Frank Pellico will also be at The MARK for the fourth time this year. Pellico's amazing organ work will be featured throughout Saturday's game.

· Sunday, March 13th vs. the Kansas City Outlaws-Family Fun-Day Sunday-3:00 p.m.

Family Fun-Day Sunday is back. Fans are invited down to the ice for a pre-game skate from 1:15-2:00 p.m. The Mallards and The MARK are hosting a spaghetti dinner for fans from 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m. The cost for the dinner is just $5.

Upcoming Games

· Wednesday, March 9th vs. the Rockford IceHogs at Rockford-7:05 p.m.

The Mallards face the Hogs for the first time since January on Wednesday in Rockford. The mid-week showdown marks the ninth meeting of the year between the intrastate rivals.

· Saturday, March 12th vs. the Port Huron Beacons at The MARK-7:00 p.m.

The Mallards host the Beacons on Saturday to close out the season series with Port Huron. The Beacons enter the week five points behind the Mallards for the final playoff spot in the United League. The teams' have split two meetings this year at The MARK. On the year, the Mallards are 2-3-1 vs. Port Huron.

· Sunday, March 13th vs. the Kansas City Outlaws at The MARK-3:00 p.m.

The Mallards and Outlaws face off for the third time in two weeks on Sunday at The MARK. Quad City is 7-1-0 this year vs. the Outlaws including a perfect 4-0-0 record at The MARK. The Mallards make two more appearances in Kansas City (March 19th and April 1st) and host the Outlaws again on March 26th.

Duck Talk

Tonight, the Mallards are back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge for Duck Talk beginning at 7 p.m. This week's guests are Marty Standish, Dave Stewart and Les Borsheim along with coach Paul Gillis. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Tuesday, March 1st-Quad City 4 at Kansas City 3-Shootout

The Mallards improved to 7-1-0 vs. Kansas City with a come-from-behind shootout victory. The Outlaws took a 2-1 lead in the first period on goals by Jay Murphy and Joe Seroski. Mike Kompon recorded the Mallards first period marker on the power play. In the second, Mathieu Descouteaux scored to extend Kansas City's lead to 3-1. In the third period, Greg Barber scored 5:13 into the period to cut the Outlaw lead to one. Patrick Nadeau would even the score on a Mallards power play two and a half minutes later. In the shootout, Jason Deskins and Joe Dusbabek scored while Robert Gherson stopped four of five Outlaw shooters to earn the win.

Friday, March 4th-Quad City 2 at Motor City 1

The Mallards became just the third team to beat the Mechanics with Chris Chelios in the line-up with a 2-1 victory on Friday. Dave Stewart started the scoring with his fifth goal of the year just 88 seconds into the game. Former Mallard Jeff Doyle tied the score with a power-play goal at 12:11 of the first. In the second, Greg Barber scored the game winner on the power play with 2:25 gone in the period. Barber's goal held up as the game winner as the final 37:35 went scoreless. Robert Gherson made 35 saves in the win.

Saturday, March 5th-Quad City 5 at Kalamazoo 2

The Mallards won in Kalamazoo for the first time this year on Saturday night. The victory also established a five-game winning streak-the longest of the year for the Mallards. Holinger and Frantisek Skladany tallied in the first to give Quad City a 2-0 lead. Patrick Nadeau extended the lead to 3-0 with a power-play goal just 29 seconds into the second period. Tyson Turgeon scored for Kalamazoo to cut the lead to two goals. Jason Deskins answered that marker with 16 seconds left in the second. Deskins' 18th goal gave the Mallards a 4-1 lead. In the third, Kalamazoo's Kevin Kotyluk scored with the man advantage to pull the Wings to within two. The Wings couldn't get closer before Mike Kompon scored into an empty net to set the final at 5-2. Robert Gherson made 39 saves for the Mallards in securing his 15th win.

Sunday, March 6th-Quad City 1 at Muskegon 3

The Fury snapped the Mallards win streak at five with a 3-1 win on Sunday in Muskegon. Billy Collins opened the scoring for the Fury at 7:37 of the first period. Mike Kompon evened the score with his first shorthanded goal of the year just two minutes after Collins' goal. Kompon finishes the week with a team-leading 25 goals. After a scoreless second, Colin Embley scored for Muskegon on an early third period power play. Todd Robinson would add an empty netter to give the Fury a 3-1 win.

Player of the Week-Mike Kompon is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Kompon recorded five points (three goals and two assists) in four games this week. The Mallards rookie is on a six-game scoring streak.

Goaltender of the Week-Robert Gherson is UHL Goaltender of the Week. He is the second Mallard this season to earn that honor. Jeff Reynaert won the award in late October. On the week, Gherson went 3-0-0 with a 2.00 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. Gherson earned three of his four road victories during the recent road trip.
