Game Rewind
Friday, October 30th @ Wheeling (Kalamazoo 6-Wheeling 5-Shootout)
Wheeling, WV- Trailing for just the first time this season after two periods of play, the Kalamazoo Wings erased a one goal deficit and defeated the Wheeling Nailers 6-5 in a shootout to extend their winning streak to six games.
Featuring plenty of scoring chances, each team lit the lamp twice in the opening period. Kalamazoo started the scoring with Sam Ftorek's first of the season 7:48 into the first.
The Nailers stormed back less than two minutes later with a tally from Thomas Harrison (2nd). Wheeling gained a 2-1 advantage with a rebound marker from Kevin Schmidt (1st).
Aggressive checking helped the K-Wings tie the game at 2-2, as Matt Jones created a Nailers turnover and quickly sent the puck to Darryl Lloyd, who tipped in his team-leading fifth goal of the season 22 seconds remaining in the period.
Carrying momentum into the second period, Trent Daavettila (3rd) struck 26 seconds into the second period to regain a 3-2 advantage for Kalamazoo.
Including the goal from Daavettila, the K-Wings had outscored their opposition 15-1 in the second period this season, but that domination came to an abrupt halt.
With the pendulum swinging towards Kalamazoo, Wheeling abruptly swung it back towards their direction with a shorthanded breakaway goal from Aaron Clarke (2nd).
Wheeling jumped back ahead 4-3 later in the period with a marker from Andrew Lord (2nd). The Nailers extended their lead 13:22 into the stanza with Dan Henningson's first goal of his pro career.
Off a face-off late in the period, Kalamazoo cut the deficit back to a single-goal, when Daavettila (4th) knocked in a rebound for his second goal of the night.
Kalamazoo pulled even midway in the third period, when Will Colbert (2nd) crashed the net and whacked in a Jones rebound.
The contest remained tied at 5-5 in the remainder of the third period forcing the extra session. No scoring in overtime would bring the K-Wings to their first shootout of the season.
The K-Wings out-dueled the Nailers 2-1 in a six-round shootout to improve their record to 6-0-0-0, one win shy of tying their organization's record for best start, set by the 1990-91 K-Wings.
Kalamazoo's shootout goals were tallied by Rick Cleaver and Jones. Despite scoring in the shootout, Cleaver's point streak is snapped at five games.
Saturday, October 31st Vs Toledo (Toledo 7-Kalamazoo 5)
Kalamazoo, MI- Special teams played a key role during the 6th Annual Orange Ice Game, as the Toledo Walleye register five power-play markers en route to a 6-5 victory during the 6th Annual Orange Ice Game.

Not to be outdone, Trent Daavettila (5th) evened the score up at 2-2 with a man-advantage goal with just less than three minutes remaining in the period. Daavettila has now registered six points in his last three games (4 goals, 2 assists).
In the second, Toledo regained the lead 1:32 into the period with a goal from Evan Rankin (2nd).
Kalamazoo's power-play returned the favor tying the contest at 3-3 with a marker from Mathieu Curadeau (4th).
Storming back Maxime Tanguay (3rd, 4th) pushed the Walleye ahead by two goals scoring twice on the power-play.
Bringing the deficit to a single-goal, Matt Jones (3rd) kissed a wrister off the pipe and over the goal line to knock the Toledo lead to 5-4.
Early in the third period, Dominic Osman (2nd) extended the Walleye lead back to two goals with the team's fifth power-play tally of the night.
Kalamazoo's power-play unit battle the K-Wings back to a single goal, as a Ryan McGinnis blast from the point sailed off the end wall and back to the stick of Cleaver (5th), who punched in his second the game.
With the K-Wings trailing 6-5 with under two minutes remaining and with a man-advantage, Kalamazoo pulled goaltender Julien Ellis for the extra skater; however, Osman (3rd) rifled a loose puck down the length of the ice to registered the shorthanded insurance marker.
The teams combined for eight power-play goals, with Kalamazoo going 3 for 7 with the advantage and Toledo going a staggering 5 for 8.
