Bakersfield Condors News Release
This Week in Condorstown
Saturday, Nov. 7
The entire Condors team hit the links at Rio Bravo Country Club for the 12th Annual Condors Charity Golf Classic, beginning at 10:30 am. Foursomes were matched up with a Condors player as the teams of five took part in an entertaining round of golf, including aiming for a hockey net on your drive, putting with a hockey stick and taking a swing while wearing hockey gloves. The money raised will go to Kern Bridges Youth Homes.
Saturday, Nov. 7
Baby Cal will participate in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk from 8-9 a.m. at Yokuts Park on 4200 Empire Drive. Money raised from the walk will help to find the cure for diabetes.
The Condors will be in action at 7 p.m. at Rabobank Arena when they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers for the third time in three days, following two games in Las Vegas. All fans in attendance will receive a Team Poster, courtesy of ABC23, Hot Hits 93.1 and Digital Designs.
Tuesday, Nov. 10
When the Condors take on the Stockton Thunder at 7 p.m., the Condors will host their annual Warm Families Coat Collection, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, 106.1 KRAB Radio and Direct Buy. The coats will be donated to the following organizations: Bakersfield Homeless Center, Jamison Children's Center, CHW Mercy Learning Center, Boys & Girls Club of Kern County and Teen Challenge. All fans who donate a new or gently-used coat receive a $1 ticket to the evening's contest. Over the past 11 seasons, more than 20,000 coats have been donated at this annual event.
Toy Collection Night a Success!
The Condors hosted their Annual Toy Collection (pictured, above), sponsored by ABC23 and R & D Leather Furniture, last Wednesday at Rabobank Arena. A total of 260 toys were donated to Stay Focused Ministries, marking one of the biggest totals in the toy drive's six-year history.
"Thank You for your continuing support to the Stay Focused Mentoring Program," said Alicia Arevalo of Stay focused Ministries. "Once again we have been blessed by all the Condor fans with over 250 toys, which will be given to the less fortunate children in our community on our December 19th Toy Giveaway. These toys will definitely bring many smiles to children whom otherwise would not have received any toys at all."
The Week That Was
It was a 'Spook'tacularly busy week in Condorstown as Colonel Claw'd, Baby Cal and Slapshot visited four different Halloween events. Baby Cal kicked things off on Thursday by taking part in the East Bakersfield High School Halloween Bash. Hundreds were in attendance as Baby Cal boogied down on the dance floor. Halloween Night on Saturday saw all three mascots out at the same time. Colonel Claw'd passed out candy at the Trunk or Treat event in Oildale, Baby Cal helped hand out prizes and greet visitors at the Kern County Museum Safe House Halloween and Slapshot brought the Condors inflatable slapshot to the annual Olive Drive Church Family Fun Night.
Weller's Facebook Chat
On Thursday, Condors Captain Shawn Weller took part in a Facebook chat with fans on the Condors Official Facebook Fan Page. Approximately 25 fans participated in the chat and asked Weller questions regarding his thoughts on Bakersfield and what it was like to be named Captain.
