Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo opened the week on Friday (10/29), as they traveled to Port Huron, Michigan to battle the Beacons. The K-Wings started the game's scoring 2:33 into the opening period, when Tim Turner (1) scored on a short-handed breakaway to give Kalamazoo the 1-0 lead. Midway into the period, Beacons forward Mat Goody (1) deflected an Ivan Curic shot past K-Wings goaltender Chad Alban to tie the game up at 1-1. In the second period, Turner (2) struck again, this time on the power-play to put Kalamazoo up 2-1. The K-Wings received an insurance goal late in the third period, when Alban found a streaking Turner at center ice; Turner (3) skated the puck to the Beacons blue line and then cashed in on an empty net situation to record his first professional hat trick and sealed the victory for Kalamazoo, as the K-Wings defeated the Beacons by the final of 3-1.

On Saturday (10/30), the K-Wings returned back to Wings Stadium to face-off against their intra-state rivals, the Muskegon Fury in the inaugural "Orange Ice" game. In a game marred with penalties opportunities for both teams, it would be the K-Wings that would score the contest's first goal. While on their first of a season high 10 man advantages, Kalamazoo's David Struch (4) found an opening in the slot and slid the puck past Muskegon's Clayton Pool just 50 second into the game to give Kalamazoo a 1-nothing lead. Muskegon's Scott Hollis (2) tied the game up at 1-1 just over five minutes later with a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle. With the K-Wings shorthanded midway into the first period, Kalamazoo regained the lead, when Shaun Fisher (1) scorched a slap shot from the between the circles to give Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead. The Fury would once again knot the game up, as B.J. Gaustad tied the game at 2-2 with his fourth goal of the season. In the second period, the defending Colonial Cup champions would take the lead for good with two goals 18 seconds apart, including the eventual game-winning goal from Hollis (3) to give the Fury a 4-2 lead. Kalamazoo attempted a comeback in the third period with a goal by Russell Spence (1), but it wouldn't be enough as the Fury defended the K-Wings by the final of 4-3.

Fast Forward

The K-Wings will continue their four game home stand with two games this weekend. On Friday, November 5th, for the first-time ever, Kalamazoo will host the Kansas City Outlaws. Kansas City has jumped out to record of 5-2-0 (10 points) and is currently in the third place in the Western Division, just one-point behind both Rockford and Fort Wayne. The Outlaws two top gunslingers are Steve Yetman and Joe Seroski. Yetmen currently is tied for fifth in scoring in the UHL with 12 points. Seroski starts the week with 8 goals, which makes him the most prolific goal scorer in the UHL. Friday's game is presented by Kansas City Dipping Grill; fans will have the opportunity to register before the game to "Dip for their Dinner". The lucky fan will get their chance to dip during the games first period intermission.

Kalamazoo concludes the week on Saturday (11/6), when they host the Elmira Jackals on WKFR and Meijer Kids Day and Mascot Night. Elmira starts the week tied atop of the Eastern Division with the Danbury Trashers. A good reason for the Jackals 5-3-0 (10 points) start is because of the duo of Greg Koehler and Jason Sessa, who are tied with 14 points for the scoring lead in the UHL.

Turner Over Drive

K-Wings forward Tim Turner recorded his first career hat trick last Friday at Port Huron. Turner starts the week on a three game scoring streak. In his last three games, Turner has registered three goals and has added 2 assists.

Home Sweet Home

The K-Wings will play games two and three of their four-game home stand this week. Kalamazoo will host Kansas City this Friday (11/5) and Elmira on Saturday (11/6). The home stand will conclude Wednesday, November 10th versus the Muskegon Fury.

Carriere Near the Top Defenseman Daniel Carriere is near the top of two UHL categories. With 6 points (0 goals, 6 assists) Carriere is tied for third for the league lead among defensemen in scoring. Carriere is also tied for second place among D-men in assists.
