November 1, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Danbury Trashers News Release
After the Trashers endured their first home loss and 2-game losing streak in the short history of the Danbury UHL franchise, the Trashers bounced back and played a trick on Adirondack in a 3-2 defeat of the Frostbite on Halloween at the Danbury Ice Arena.
The victory further crowded the point totals in the Eastern Division as the Trashers returned to the top of the division in a tie with Elmira, each with 10 points on five wins. Richmond is just one point behind the leaders, while Adirondack is in last place, but only two points out of first place.
Early season standings in the Eastern Division further confirm pre-season expectations that the East is perhaps the toughest division in the league, and will be close for the entire season.
TRASHERS WEEK IN REVIEW
DANBURY SNAPS TWO-GAME SKID WITH 3-2 WIN OVER ADIRONDACK
October 31, 2004
Quick scoring and solid defense led the Danbury Trashers on Sunday night as they talled all of their goals within the first four minutes of the first and second periods in a 3-2 win over Adirondack from the Danbury Ice Arena.
Semir Ben-Amor's first of the season kicked off the Trashers' scoring just 2:06 into the first period, on assists by Doug Christiansen and Gerry Hickey. Adirondack veteran Bruce Gardiner tied the game five minutes later, on a goal from Justin Kelly and Hugo Belanger.
Danbury took a permanent lead just nineteen seconds into the second period on Jim Duhart's 4th of the season from Brent Gretzky and Nick Bilotto, while Bruce Richardson's goal from John Morlang opened up a 3-1 lead at the 3:03 mark of the period.
Belanger, who assisted on the Frostbite's first goal, netted his 6th of the season at the 6:08 mark of the period on Kelly's second assist of the game. Belanger has scored seven points on three goals in his last three games.
Trashers' netminder Scott Stirling turned aside 29 of 31 shots and was awarded first star of the game, while his Frostbite counterpart, Derek Gustafson was 28-for-31. The victory catapults Danbury into a first place tie with Elmira, who share matching 5-4-0 records for 10 points in the UHL Eastern Division.
TRASHERS FALL TO RICHMOND 5-2 BEHIND TWO J.F. PICARD GOALS
October 30, 2004
After a penalty-filled first meeting last Sunday, the Trashers and RiverDogs made certain this match would not appear tame in comparison as Richmond defeated Danbury 5-2 on Saturday night before 2,081 at the Danbury Ice Arena.
Two fights erupted before the game was three minutes old, Brad Wingfield and Dan Rohanna followed by Gerry Hickey and Jason Bone a second later. Bone would get his second fighting major of the game halfway through the second period for a scrap with Rumun Ndur.
The RiverDogs opened the scoring with two goals in the first period, from Brosseau at 3:06 and later from Turner at 17:21 short-handed. Tough guy Wingfield netted his second of the year, from new Trasher Mathieu Wathier, and Rumun Ndur at 9:12 of the second period. J.F.Picard's first goal opened the lead back up to two in favor of the RiverDogs.
Richmond scored early into the third frame when Wroblel put one past netminder Scott Stirling :38 seconds in, assists going to Mark Turner and David Hymovitz. Fresh from serving two minutes for a roughing minor, Jim Duhart scored with assists from Blake Bellefeuille and Mario Larocque for Danbury's only power play tally at 8:12. The final goal of the night came on RiverDog Picard's second of the night at 9:57. At the same time as the score, Danbury's Wingfield accquired 17 minutes in penalties and a game misconduct when he instigated a fight with Rohanna. The Trashers spent the next seven minutes on the penalty kill.
The teams totaled 83 minutes in penalties. Danbury was 1-for-7 on the man advantage, Richmond 0-for-7. Stirling stopped 27 of 32 shots on the Danbury net, Ryan McIntosh turned aside 30 of 32.
LATE FLURRY COMES SHORT AS DANBURY FALLS TO ADIRONDACK 5-4
October 29, 2004
Despite a pair of late goals by Brent Gretzky and Bruce Richardson, the Danbury Trashers were unable to overcome a three-goal Frostbite lead as Adirondack defeated the Trashers 5-4 on Friday night from Glens Falls, New York.
Although Danbury trailed for most of the evening, it was Mike Bayrack of the Trashers striking first with his 3rd goal of the season just 1:22 into the opening period on an assist from John Morlang.
Adirondack, who had never led in any of their two previous meetings against the Trashers, tied the game on Jason Jaworski's 1st goal of the season at the 5:06 mark of the 1st, then took the lead for good on Scott Page's first of the season from Scott Drevitch and Hugo Belanger at the 10:00 mark of the opening frame.
Guillaume Lavallee started just his second game as a professional and looked shaky as he allowed two goals in just six first period shots faced. He gave up another pair of goals in the second period as Sylvain Cloutier and Trevor Segstro scored to open up a 4-1 Frostbite lead. Bayrack then tallied his second of the night and 4th of the season on an assist from Rumun Ndur at the 18:18 mark of the second period.
Adirondack's David Burgess scored a big power play goal at the 2:29 mark of the 3rd period to extend the Frostbite lead to 5-2. Danbury goals from Gretzky at the 16:26 mark and Richardson
at the 19:28 mark with an empty net gave the Trashers a late fighting chance, but they were unable to tie the game and force a shootout.
Derek Gustafson picked up the win in net for Adirondack (2-3-2), who have now won two straight.

TRASHER TIDBITS
- Brad Wingfield became the first player this season to top 100 PIM's as he currently leads the UHL with 107. Trasher teammate Rumun Ndur is second in the league in that department, but trails by a wide margin with 68. The Trashers as a team lead the league in penalty minutes with 383.
- Home cooking has been kind to Danbury, who has earned four of their five wins at home. Their only home blemish occurred on October 30th in a 5-2 loss to Richmond. Danbury's only road win was on October 23rd against Adirondack in a 3-2 shootout decision.
- Two of Bruce Richardson's four goals this season have been game winners. Last night's
second period goal gave the Trashers a 3-1 lead in what was a 3-2 win over the Frostbite. Richardson also netted the game-winning goal in Danbury's 5-4 win over Fort Wayne on October 17th. Danbury's win at Adirondack on October 23rd also featured a Richardson shootout goal which was the only goal scored by either team in the 3-2 shootout win over the Frostbite.
- Hugo Belanger's power-play goal for Adirondack in last night's loss to Danbury was just the first power-play goal allowed by the Trashers at the Danbury Ice Arena this season. Opposing teams are a paltry 1-27 (3.7%) when having the man advantage on Danbury's home ice.
