Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- Forward Matt Caria continued his scoring touch, notching his second and third goals of the preseason, to help guide the Kalamazoo Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets Friday night in The Annex.

Just as they did on Wednesday, the K-Wings started the game's scoring with a slap shot from Chris Lawrence (1st) 9:30 into the opening period.

Fort Wayne evened the game at 1-1 later in the stanza with a backhanded marker from John Dunbar (1st).

Reclaiming momentum 40 seconds after the Dunbar tally, Caria scored his first of two in the contest with an unassisted goal. After intercepting a pass in the neutral zone, Caria drove the attack zone and beat Fort Wayne goaltender Cody Reichard over his blocker.

Kalamazoo pushed their lead to two goals in the second period with the eventual-game winning goal from Ray Kaunisto (1st). The forward utilized a screen by Brett Lysak to score on a right-circle slap shot to give the K-Wings a 3-1 advantage.

Battling back with just less than four minutes remaining in the period, Chris Auger brought the Komets back to within a single goal; scoring his team-leading second of the preseason.

Pulling away in the third period, the K-Wings received a goal from John Armstrong (1st) 48 seconds into the third period. Armstrong's goal was setup by a long outlet pass from Steve Whitely, who finished the contest with two assists.

Caria closed out the scoring midway in the period with his, team-best, third of the preseason.

Earning the victory between the pipes was Jordan Binnington, who made 28 saves in his K-Wings debut.
