K-Wings Martin Named CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week

KALAMAZOO- Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Joel Martin has been named the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period of December 8th-14th. This is the second time this season and fifth overall that Martin has received the league's weekly honor.

Making two appearances last week, Martin went 2-0-0-0 with a miniscule goals-against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of 0.986.

Martin started the week last Wednesday by making 32 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators. Two nights later, Martin earned his first shutout of the season stopping 27 shots in the K-Wings 2-0 victory over the Toledo Walleye.

On the season Martin is 8-6-1-1 in 18 appearances with a 2.89 goals-against average. Martin ranks second in the ECHL in saves (468) and third in minutes played (1,037).

Martin has appeared in 203 career ECHL games with Columbus, Trenton, Elmira, Augusta and Kalamazoo posting an overall record of 101-75-20 with seven shutouts, a 2.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .908. During the 2012-13 season, he set an ECHL record by playing 3,739 minutes while his 63 games played and 2,051 saves are second all-time in a single season in league history.

Joel has recorded 58 of his 101 ECHL victories in Kalamazoo. The 58 victories ties Martin with Ryan Nie for the first place for victories in K-Wings' ECHL history.
