Spurgeon Departs Reign for Europe

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, announced that center Tyler Spurgeon has left the club to play overseas. He has been suspended by the Reign in order to retain his ECHL rights.

Spurgeon, 28, had posted 10 points (2g-8a) in 12 games with Ontario. The nine-year pro also saw time in the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Flames in early December, appearing in one game for the Flames on a professional tryout agreement.

The native of Edmonton, Alberta has appeared in 247 combined matches in the AHL and ECHL, posting 155 points (54g-101a) and 96 penalty minutes. He also spent four seasons in Austria playing for Klagenfurt of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, recording 64 points (31g-33a) and 55 penalty minutes in 105 career games.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound pivot played his junior career with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League from 2001-06, accumulating 124 points (43g-81a) and 99 penalty minutes in 212 games.

Spurgeon was an eighth round selection (#242 overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
