
Kalamazoo's Martin Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joel Martin of the Kalamazoo Wings is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 8-14. Martin, who also won the award for the week ending Nov. 9, has won five weekly honors in his career, tied for the second most in ECHL history.
Martin went 2-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .986 in two appearances last week.
The 32-year-old turned aside 32 shots in a 4-1 win against Gwinnett on Wednesday and stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory over Toledo on Friday.
A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Martin has appeared in 18 games this season with a record of 8-6-2 with two shutouts, a 2.89 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903. He is second in the league with 468 saves and third with 1,037 minutes played.
Martin has appeared in 203 career ECHL games with Columbus, Trenton, Elmira, Augusta and Kalamazoo posting an overall record of 101-75-20 with seven shutouts, a 2.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .908. During the 2012-13 season, he set an ECHL record by playing 3,739 minutes while his 63 games played and 2,051 saves are second all-time in a single season in league history.
He has also seen action in 22 career games in the American Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk, Syracuse and Bridgeport.
