Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings made several roster changes this afternoon as the team gets ready for a three-game road trip this Wednesday night against the Elmira Jackals.

Completing their January 6th trade with the San Francisco Bulls for Aaron Clarke, the K-Wings will receive defenseman Kalvin Sagert .

Beginning the season with the Central Hockey League's Wichita Thunder, Sagert posted one assist in 11 games with the Thunder. In late November Sagert joined the Bulls where he registered 10 assists in 22 games.

Sagert, who is in his first full season of professional hockey, played the past five seasons at Lakehead University where he was a teammate of current K-Wings forward Matt Caria. The 6'2" defenseman wore a captains letter in his final two seasons with the Thunderwolves.

Before heading to Lakehead University, Sagert played six seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League, primarily with the Prince George Cougars. The native of Abbotsford, British Columbia received his first taste of pro hockey during the 2007-08 season where he played four games in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Kalamazoo also completed a trade with the Toledo Walleye. The K-Wings will send future considerations to the Walleye for defenseman Joe Sova.

A mobile defenseman with plenty of size, Sova returns to K-Wings. Sova began the year in Kalamazoo, but didn't play in any games. Sova posted nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 23 games with Toledo.

Last season, Sova split time with the Reading Royals and the San Francisco Bulls.

Two seasons ago, Sova spent a majority of the season with the K-Wings. A prospect of the New Jersey Devils, Sova was traded at the NHL trade deadline to the Carolina Hurricanes. After the trade, Sova spent the remainder of the regular season in the American Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers. Following the regular season Sova headed back to the ECHL to lend a helping hand to the Florida Everblades in capturing the 2011-2012 Kelly Cup.

A native of Berwyn, Illinois, Sova spent three seasons playing collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, totaling 58 points (13 goals, 45 assists).

Before heading to college, Sova played three seasons of junior hockey in the USHL, including the 2007-08 season when he was a member of the USHL champions, Omaha Lancers.

In other transactions, forward Cody Beach has been reassigned by the St. Louis Blues to the AHL's Chicago Wolves and the K-Wings have released defenseman Jarrett Rush.

By heading to Chicago, Beach becomes the 16th member of the K-Wings this season to be either reassigned or loaned to an AHL club.
