Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Host Orlando for a Pair of Contests After Record-Setting Weekend

The Week That Was...

The South Carolina Stingrays hosted the Florida Everblades on Friday and Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum last weekend for a week record of 2-0-0-0, sending the ECHL's second-best overall record to 28-10-1-2.

The Stingrays kicked off the weekend with a 4-2 victory. Forward Peter Boyd scored a goal and an assist and forwards Wayne Simpson, Jack Downing and Paul Rodrigues added tallies. The loss snapped a three-game unbeaten streak for the Everblades.

On Saturday, the Stingrays celebrated their annual Pack the House Night . In front of a single-game attendance record of 10,617, the Stingray toppled the Everblades 4-1. Defenseman Derrick Pallis registered his first goal as a Stingray to and added an assist while goaltender Jeff Jakaitis picked up his 21 victory of the season making 32 saves.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are first in the South Division, first in the Eastern Conference and second overall in the ECHL with 59 points (28-10-1-2).

Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis is second in the ECHL with a 1.70 goals-against average, .938 save percentage and 21 wins, tied for third with three shutouts, third in minutes played (1,693) and fifth with 724 saves.

Forward Wayne Simpson is tied for 12 among ECHL rookies with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists), fifth with 108 shots on goal and tied for fourth with a plus-minus rating of +15.

Defenseman Steve Spinell is first among rookies and third among defensemen with 25 minor penalties.

Defenseman Jeremy Price is third among rookies with a plus-minus rating of +18.

The Stingrays boast the best defense in the ECHL averaging 1.98 goals against per game.
