Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- Hours away from their first game of the season and the Kalamazoo Wings, with assistance from their affiliates, have added defenseman Kane Lafranchise and forward Nathan Longpre to their roster.

The Utica Comets reassigned Lafranchise to the K-Wings. Lafranchise is no stranger to the ECHL. The defenseman has played part of four seasons with the Alaska Aces, including last season where he help the Aces capture the Kelly Cup.

Besides playing professional hockey in Alaska, Lafranchise also played collegiate hockey in Anchorage. Lafranchise spent three seasons with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, including 2009-10 when he led all Seawolf blue-liners with 15 points (3 goals, 12 assists).

Longpre joins the K-Wings after being reassigned by the Chicago Wolves. A four-year pro, Longpre has spent three seasons with the Wolves organization.

Before turning pro, Longpre played collegiate hockey at Robert Morris University. Longpre had a very decorated career with the Colonials. Longpre was a member of the CHA All-Rookie Team during his Freshmen campaign, a CHA All-First team as a Sophomore and a team captain during his final two seasons. In 2009, Longpre competed in the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Camp.

Kalamazoo begins the season on a three-game road swing starting tonight Friday, October 17th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Elmira Jackals at the First Arena.

The K-Wings home opener will occur on Friday, October 24th versus Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium during their 11th Annual Orange Ice Game. Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes and participate in Halloween festivities.
