September 1, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
With seven games remaining in the regular season, the K-Tribe's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is six. Kinston returns to action tonight at 7pm at Frederick.
Lucky Seven - Kinston scored nine unanswered runs to beat Frederick 9-2 in Tuesday night's series opener. The K-Tribe has won a season-best seven games in a row and 12 of their last 15 contests overall. This is Kinston's first seven-game win streak since August 4-11 of last season. The Indians hold a 3.5 game lead over Salem in the Southern Division playoff race and have a magic number of six to clinch a playoff spot. The K-Tribe is outscoring their opponents 45-16 during the win streak.
Indian Summer - The K-Tribe continued a recent trend of catching fire in the month of August. In 2008, Kinston won 11 of their first 14 August games, including an eight-game win streak from August 7-15. That was also the last time the K-Tribe won eight consecutive games. In 2009, the Indians won seven straight and 12 of 13 to jump back into the playoff race. Kinston's last nine-game win streak was in 2004, when manager Torey Lovullo led the team to a 10-0 start on the way to a Carolina League Championship season. Fausto Carmona was a star pitcher for that K-Tribe squad.
