THE HILLCATS: Last night Winston-Salem pounded out a 10-2 win over Lynchburg and they have now taken the first two games of the four-game set...Today the Cats play game three of their series with the Dash and the third contest of a seven-game road trip that will round out the 2010 regular season...Lynchburg entered today five games back of Potomac for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division with five games left to play in the second half of the season...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Lynchburg is 4-14 against Winston-Salem this season and 2-6 in the Triad...The Dash have three, three-game series sweeps of the Hillcats this year...Last season the Cats went 11-9 against the Dash...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 160-153...The last time the Green & Gold traveled to BB&T Ballpark, they got the better of the Dash in two out of three games in the set...
AUGUST RUSH: In the month of August Lynchburg went 16-12 to give them their first over .500 month of the season...The Hillcats batted .266 in the month and had a 3.72 ERA...
LIFE SUPPORT: The Hillcats enter play today five games behind the Nationals for first place in the Northern Division with five games left to play...Potomac has six games left to go in the second half of the season...A Lynchburg loss or a Potomac win the rest of the way would eliminate the Hillcats from playoff contention...
GOOD AFTERTASTE: Sunday night was the last home game of the regular season for the Hillcats...They closed out the home campaign with a 4-3 win in ten innings over the Blue Rocks...Lynchburg went 33-37 in 70 home games in 2010...They finished off their games at City Stadium by going 9-5 in their last two homestands combined...This after they had dropped 13 out of 16 at Calvin Falwell Field...On Sunday the Cats won in walk-off fashion for the sixth time this season in the Hill City...Last season they won their final home game of the season with a walk-off win...They topped Salem in game two of the Mills Cup Championship with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning by UTIL Jose De Los Santos...
OH HENRY: INF Henry Rodriguez made his Advanced-A debut last night after he was promoted from Low-A Dayton yesterday...He went 1-for-4 with an RBI single...He was batting .307 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI in 124 games with the Dragons...In the Midwest League the infielder was tenth in batting average, fifth in RBI, first in hits (158), first in at-bats (514) and third in total bases (243) at the time of his promotion...Rodriguez was the lone representative for Dayton in the Midwest League All-Star game...OF Kevyn Feiner also returned to the Hillcats from Dayton, while INF Shane Carlson and OF Kyle Day were promoted to Double-A Carolina...
PROSPECT SWAPPING: SS Miguel Rojas was promoted back to Double-A Carolina Tuesday and SS Didi Gregorius was promoted to Lynchburg from Low-A Dayton to take his spot on the roster...Rojas was batting .230 with a home run and 14 runs driven in in 74 games with the Hillcats...Gregorius was hitting .273 with 11 triples, five home runs, 41 RBI and 16 steals in 120 games for the Dragons...Rojas was ranked as the 17th best prospect in the Reds minor League system prior to the start of the season according to Baseball America, while Gregorius was the 15th ranked...In his first two games as a Hillcat he is 3-for-6 with a run scored and a walk...
FALL BALL: The Cincinnati Reds announced their representatives for the prestigious Arizona Fall League and the list includes four former Hillcats from 2010...C Devin Mesoraco, OF Dave Sappelt, LHP Jeremy Horst and RHP James Avery will play for the Peoria Saguaros this fall...Three former Hillcats in the Pirates organization will also play in the Fall League, for the Mesa Solar Sox...Pittsburgh's 2009 first-round draft pick (fourth overall) C Tony Sanchez will play with former Cats UTIL Josh Harrison and INF Jordy Mercer...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Joseph Serafin was selected by the White Sox in the 37th round of the 2009 draft out of the University of Vermont...In 2008 he went 6-5 with a 2.51 ERA with one save in 12 games (11 starts) for the Catamounts...His final season with UVM though he went 4-7 with a 6.26 ERA in 14 games (13 starts)...Last year he made his professional debut with Rookie Bristol and went 4-1 with a 1.64 ERA in seven games (five starts)...He finished the season with full season Low-A Kannapolis and had a 3-1 record with a 2.98 ERA in seven starts...This season he returned to the Intimidators and went 7-5 with a 3.47 ERA in 16 starts before earning a promotion to Winston-Salem...Serafin was a mid-season All-Star selection in the South Atlantic League...With the Dash he has gone 2-4 with a 6.70 ERA in nine starts...The southpaw made his Advanced-A debut against Lynchburg on July 11th and gave up five runs in six and 2/3 innings (6.75 ERA) to take the loss...
