Hosmer and Dwyer Receive Blue Rocks POY Honors

Wilmington, DE - The Kansas City Royals have announced their organizational awards and eight of the 16 recipients have worn a Wilmington Blue Rocks uniform at one point. First baseman Eric Hosmer was named the Blue Rocks Player of the Year, while left-hander Chris Dwyer earned Pitcher of the Year honors for the Blue Crew. All of the winners are expected to be at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City for Futures Night on Friday, October 1, where they will be honored in an on-field presentation prior to the Royals game against the Rays.

Dwyer was the Royals' fourth-round pick in 2009 out of Clemson University. He went 6-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 15 starts for the Blue Rocks. The 22-year-old was promoted in early July to Northwest Arkansas where he compiled a 2-1 record and a 3.06 ERA in four starts. The Swampscott, MA resident fanned 93 in 84.1 innings with Wilmington and 113 in 102 overall frames in 2010.

Hosmer batted .354 with 29 doubles, six triples, seven home runs and 51 RBIs for Wilmington before his promotion to Northwest Arkansas. The Florida native has since hit .313 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs in 45 games for the Royals' Double-A club. The third-overall pick in the draft by Kansas City in 2008, went 4-for-5 at the Futures All-Star Game on July 11 in Anaheim.

Multiple men with service time in Wilmington were honored as well. Mike Moustakas was named the overall Minor League Player of the Year in the Kansas City system, while John Lamb was honored as the overall Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Current Blue Crewers Bryan Paukovits and Wil Myers were named the Pitcher and Player of the Year for the Low-A Burlington Bees. Former Blue Rock Kila Ka'aihue, who is currently on Kansas City's roster, was honored as the Triple-A Omaha Royals Player of the Year. Two other one-time Blue Crewers were honored at Double-A. Clint Robinson was named the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Player of the Year, and Everett Teaford received Pitcher of the Year honors. Ryan Stovall, who spent brief stints with the Rocks at the end of 2009 and early in 2010 was named the Burlington Royals Player of the Year.

The Rocks are in action tonight at Frawley Stadium when they host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 6:35 p.m. Aaron Crow (1-2, 5.79) hits the hill for Wilmington against Pelicans southpaw Matt Crim (7-10, 4.88). The first 1,250 fans will receive logo baseballs courtesy of the Delmarva Power Emergency Services Partnership Program. It is also Police Night, as all officers will receive free admission, and there will be a special jersey auction to raise money for the Ronnie Williams Foundation.
