BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN The Sea Dogs were able to hold on to an early lead and beat the Reading Fightin Phils 9-5 in front of a sold out crowd at Hadlock Field last night. Marrero began the scoring in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to score Tyler Dearden. Marcelo Mayer continued the momentum with a sacrifice fly to left field before a two-RBI double from Hickey completed the four-run inning. Reading plated their first run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth after an RBI groundout from Oliver Dunn. Oliver Dunn brought home another Reading run in the top of the fifth with an RBI double but Portland led, 4-2. Phillip Sikes reached on a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh that allowed enough time for Tyler McDonough to score. A sacrifice fly to left field from Mayer scored Sikes and Portland extended the 6-2 lead. An RBI double from Madison Stokes along with an RBI single from Matt Kroon plated two in the top of the eighth but Portland led, 6-4. Marrero hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth scored McDonough before Portland scored two more runs on an error by the third baseman for Reading. Reading plated one in the top of the ninth after an RBI single from Casey Martin but Portland secured the 9-5 win.

DOBBINS DELIVERS Hunter Dobbins was excellent in his Double-A debut for Portland. RHP Dobbins earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out five. He was 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA in seven starts with High-A Greenville Drive this season.

PLAYOFFS OFFICIALLY OUT OF REACH Despite the win last night over Reading, the Sea Dogs are officially out of playoff contention. The Somerset Patriots secured the first half championship last night with a win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats while the Erie SeaWolves won the Southwest Division first half title.

SLUGGER IS A HALL OF FAMER Portland Sea Dogs mascot, Slugger, has been elected to the Mascot Hall of Fame. Slugger is the first minor league sports mascot to ever be selected for induction. The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, August 12th at the Mascot Hall of Fame in Whiting, Indiana. Slugger joins Otto the Orange from Syracuse University as the only mascots selected for enshrinement as part of the Class of 2023. This marked the third consecutive time on the ballot for Slugger, who was previously nominated for induction in 2019 and 2021. Slugger and Otto were two of 20 mascots up for induction this year. Fans voted over a two-week period from May 14 through May 27th for the most deserving mascots

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY June 24, 2003 - Jeremy Owens and Justin Sherrod hit home runs and Tim Kester fired seven innings, allowing only two hits as the Sea Dogs beat the Akron Aeros, 4-2. Kester earned his fourth win of the season.

ON THE MOUND RHP Brian Van Belle takes the mound tonight for Portland. His last start was on June 17th in Binghamton and he pitched 6.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five. He has earned a winning decision in each of his last three outings. Van Belle has gone 6.0+ innings in last seven starts, dating back to May 9th. He has faced the Fightin Phils once. On April 19th, he tossed 5.0 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out two.
