Erie punched its ticket to the 2023 Eastern League playoffs on Friday with a 4-2 win over Hartford.

The SeaWolves were held out of the hit column through 5.2 innings by Hartford starter Nick Garcia. Colt Keith's sixth-inning single broke up the no-hit bid.

Hartford scored first in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Drew Romo against Erie starter Brant Hurter. The Yard Goats scored again in the fifth on an RBI double by Hunter Goodman, extending their lead to 2-0.

Garcia departed after six shutout frames and handed the ball to reliever Stephen Jones in the seventh. Andrew Navigato and Chris Meyers led off with consecutive singles. Then, Justice Bigbie blasted a three-run home run to give Erie a 3-2 lead. It was Bigbie's first Double-A home run. Dillon Dingler followed with a solo home run of his own, giving Erie a 4-2 lead.

Sean Guenther and Austin Bergner combined for three innings of scoreless relief to lock down the win. Hurter (3-3) earned the win. Jones (0-1) took the loss. Bergner secured his second save.

Altoona's loss to Bowie, which ended before Erie's game ended, guaranteed Erie's playoff spot. The SeaWolves made the playoffs for the second consecutive season for the first time in team history.

Erie's series against Hartford continues on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. with Lael Lockhart pitching against Gabriel Hughes.
