ICYMI: Joey Meneses was 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and a game winning single in the ninth and the Mudcats held off a four run Winston-Salem ninth inning rally while defeating the Dash 9-8 at Five County Stadium on Sunday.
ABOUT THE LAST ONE: The Mudcats clinched a 3-1 series victory with yesterday's walk-off win against the Winston-Salem Dash at Five County Stadium. The 3-1 series victory marked the first time that Carolina has won a four game set this season and brought their overall four game series record to 1-2-4 this season. The series victory was also Carolina's first since taking two of three from the Potomac Nationals between May 10 and May 12.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE: The Mudcats begin a three-day road trip tonight in Lynchburg with game one of a four game series against the Hillcats at City Stadium. The series begins tonight with game one at 6:30 p.m. and continues with a doubleheader tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. before Wednesday's series finale at 6:30 p.m. The Mudcats are 4-6 over three separate series (By series: 2-1, 1-2, 1-3) against the Hillcats this season. The Mudcats enter tonight's game at 26-34 this season and in third place in the Carolina League Southern Division Standings. The Hillcats are 40-22 and clinched the Northern Division First Half Championship yesterday with a win against Myrtle Beach. It was Lynchburg's second straight half championship (2015 Second Half Champions).
STARTING OFF: Carolina League All-Star Max Povse heads to the mound tonight for the series opening start in Lynchburg against the Hillcats. Povse is 3-4 with a 3.55 ERA over 11 starts this season. He last pitched on 6/7 in Frederick and allowed career highs in hits and runs after allowing 11 hits and eight runs (six earned) over six innings pitched. He took the loss his last time out and has lost two straight starts. Povse is currently second in the league in strikeouts this season (64) and leads Carolina League starters in FIP (2.54). He is also 3rd in the league in HR/9 (0.28) and 2nd in K/BB (4.57).
