Boone Whiting Named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

Woodbridge, VA - The Carolina League announced today that Potomac Nationals' RHP Boone Whiting has been named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 6th to June 12th. It is the first weekly award for Potomac in 2016 and the second time in Whiting's career that he has received a league wide Pitcher of the Week award. He won the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week while with Quad Cities the week of 8/27/12.
In his first start since coming off of the Temporary Inactive List, Whiting put a stop to Potomac's season-long six-game losing streak with his best start of the season. Against the Frederick Keys on June 10th, the righty allowed just two hits over 6.2 shutout innings. Whiting struck out six and walked only one in route to his team-best sixth win of the season. It was his only start during the award-winning week. Overall, Whiting is 6-2 with a 3.26 ERA through his first 10 starts with the P-Nats in 2016.
Whiting, originally drafted in the 18th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, signed with the Washington Nationals on 1/12/16 as a Minor League Free Agent. The righty has reached as high as AAA in the Cardinals' and the Colorado Rockies' affiliate system.
