Jumbo Shrimp Drop Rubber Match Despite Castano's Gem

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jumbo Shrimp starter Daniel Castano hurled six shutout innings on Friday, but Jacksonville dropped the rubber match 3-1 to the Biloxi Shuckers from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. A crowd of 6,946 enjoyed Florida Man Night presented by The Law Offices of John M. Phillips, NAPA AutoCare Family Fireworks, a Red Shirt Friday and Friday Night Lites spiced up by Tijuana Flats presented by Miller Lite and Coors Light.

The game was scoreless in the seventh when Jacksonville (49-55, 20-14) reliever Chad Smith (1-1) ceded a single to Patrick Leonard. Dillon Thomas followed with a two-run home run to put Biloxi (63-41, 22-12) ahead 2-0. Two batters later, Cooper Hummel was hit by a pitch. He moved to third on an error before scoring on Max McDowell's squeeze bunt.

With the score still 3-0, Bryson Brigman doubled with two outs in the eighth. He scored on Riley Mahan's RBI double to get the Jumbo Shrimp on the board at 3-1.

Shuckers starter Dylan File (6-1) pitched six scoreless innings, striking out eight. Nate Griep earned his 17th save with a blank ninth.

Castano fired six blank frames of his own, fanning five without walking a batter. After surrendering two singles in the first inning, the left-hander retired the final 16 batters he faced.

Friday's winning raffle number of 1580774057 won a prize of $176.
