Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN - Brandon Jones clubbed a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Saltdogs a 7-5 win over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains in front of 3,601 fans at Haymarket Park Saturday night.

The big fly came with two outs, just moments after a botched suicide squeeze attempt, in which Curt Smith was caught in a rundown and thrown out at the plate.

Lincoln fell behind in the first inning, but came back in the bottom of the frame with three runs, highlighted by a Pat Trettel two-run single to take a 3-2 lead.

The ‘Dogs added two more in the fourth, but the Captains battled back against reliever Sean Potter to even the score at 5-5 in the top of the seventh.

Paul Koss (1-2) threw 2 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two in relief to earn the win. Jameson Maj (0-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits to suffer the loss.

Vance Albitz and Smith each stroked three hits for the Saltdogs. Jones and Trettel finished with a pair of hits each, including the opposite field, walk-off homer for Lincoln's third baseman, his second of the year.

The teams meet Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. for the series finale. Tim Brown (2-3, 4.81) is expected to pitch for the ‘Dogs against Osvaldo Rodriguez (1-1, 5.45) for the Captains. Radio coverage begins at 4:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.

June 12 is a McDonald's Family Fun Sunday featuring Baseball Bingo. There will also be free Asthma screening courtesy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Associatets. For team and ticket information please call 402-474-BALL or visit www.saltdogs.com.
