AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox got another great start from Justin Garcia, while Fehlandt Lentini had two doubles and two runs scored as the Sox defeated the Fort Worth Cats 5-4 on Saturday night in front of 2,446 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The game took only two hours and five minutes to complete.
Garcia (3-1) got his third win in as many decisions, walking only one batter and striking out two. Fort Worth starter Dwayne Pollok (0-1) got the loss, allowing all five runs off six hits in seven innings of work. Sox closer Gary Perinar got his second save of the season, closing out the Cats in the ninth inning.
The Sox took a lead in the first inning as Lentini doubled to lead off, went to third on a Matt Tucker groundout and scored on a Cyle Hankerd RBI groundout. The Cats tied the game in the third as Jeremy Sauceda reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Marcos Rodriguez RBI single to tie the game 1-1.
Amarillo retook the lead in the third as Lentini hit a two-out double and scored on a Tucker RBI triple. Tucker would come across on a Hankerd RBI single for a 3-1 advantage.
The Sox added two runs in the fifth as Van Pope Walked to lead off, went to second on a groundout and scored on an Adam De La Garza RBI double. De La Garza scored on a subsequent RBI double by Jason White for a four-run Amarillo lead.
Fort Worth scored a run in the sixth on a Johnathon Moore RBI single, while Trent Lockwood hit a two-run homerun in the seventh to pull the Cats deficit to 5-4.
Perinar came in for the ninth inning and retired all three Fort Worth batters to preserve the Sox win at 5-4.
With the win, the Sox improve to 11-16 while the Cats fall to 12-16.
