St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - As hot as the St. Paul Saints offense has been in the last two weeks a game like Saturday night was bound to happen and for just the second time this season they were blanked in a 3-0 loss to the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Saturday evening at Midway Stadium in front of a season high 5,253.

In the second game of the evening that went 7.0 innings the Saints offense was stymied by a bullpen by committee pitching staff of the RailCats. Four relievers combined on a four hit shutout and two hitting streaks ended for the Saints with Jason Cooper going 0-3 and snapping his 15-game hitting streak while Ronnie Bourquin also went 0-3 and he saw his 12-game hit streak end.

The RailCats got on the board in the fourth inning when Mike Massaro led off with a single and moved to third on a single from Brad Boyer. Cristian Guerrero's sacrifice fly gave the RailCats a 1-0 lead.

In the sixth the RailCats put some distance between them and the Saints when Boyer walked with one out and scored on Guerrero's triple. Guerrero scored on a wild pitch to give the RailCats the three run margin.

The Saints best chance to score came in the first when Justin Snyder doubled, moved to third when Richard Mercado reached on a throwing error by RailCats shortstop Boyer. Cooper, however, fouled out to third and Brandon Tripp, whos 17-game hit streak ended in the first game, struck out to end the inning.

The final game of the three game series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints send RHP Matt Long (3-1, 4.71) to the mound against RailCats RHP Scott Shaw (2-2, 5.84). It is Hank Greenberg: 100 Years...A Tribute to Jewish Athletes. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
