Asheville Tourists News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - Mylz Jones, Carlos Herrera, and the rest of the Asheville Tourists, all played major roles in Thursday night's 5-4 victory over the Greenville Drive. Jones finished 3-for-4 with a Home Run, two runs scored, and two RBI's while Herrera made an outstanding defensive play late in the game to help the Tourists come out on top.
Greenville took a 2-0 lead with a pair of two-out RBI base hits in the bottom of the second but Asheville answered with a three-spot in the top of the third. Brendan Rodgers put the Tourists on the board with an RBI groundout and Yonathan Daza gave Asheville the lead with a two-run single to right.
Jones made it 4-2 when he clubbed his fifth Home Run of the season; a solo shot to left-centerfield in the top of the fourth. Jones delivered again in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to right-centerfield plating Chris Keck from second base.
The Drive began to claw their way back in the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Ockimey brought Greenville within one by leading off the bottom of the eighth with a Home Run. After Kyri Washington ended up at third base with two outs later in the inning, Tyler Spoon ripped a line drive headed for left field. Had the ball made it through, the Drive would have tied the game.
Spoon did not count on shortstop Carlos Herrera making an outstanding diving stop and transitioning it into a perfect throw to first base. Spoon was out of the play and the Tourists took the 5-4 lead into the ninth.
Salvador Justo shut the door in large part to a game-ending double-play off the bat of Chad De La Guerra. It was Justo's first save of the season. Jake Cosart worked three shutout innings for Greenville and tallied six strikeouts.
The Tourists, in the midst of a seven-game road trip, have won three straight. Friday night's contest in Greenville will begin at 7:05pm.
