Charleston RiverDogs to Wear Stars & Stripes Caps this Independence Day Weekend
June 30, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC -- For the seventh consecutive year, the Charleston RiverDogs will honor America and help raise much-needed funds for a worthy cause this Independence Day holiday weekend by wearing specially-designed "Stars & Stripes" caps from New Era Cap Company. A total of 128 teams across Minor League Baseball will wear the specialty caps as part of fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, an organization dedicated to addressing the ongoing needs of military personnel and their families.
The RiverDogs will wear the special caps for their home games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Minor League Baseball, in conjunction with its licensing partner Major League Baseball Properties, will once again donate 100 percent of the proceeds from cap sales to Welcome Back Veterans as part of its contribution to the program. Since the program's inception in 2010, MiLB has contributed annually to the veterans' organization. The cap design features a white star patterned background and a patriotic theme. They can be purchased in team stores of participating teams, and online on some teams' websites.
"We are honored to show our appreciation for the members of our armed forces this Fourth of July Weekend through The Stars & Stripes cap program," said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O'Conner. "It is one small way we can contribute to Welcome Back Veterans and honor America."
"The Charleston RiverDogs have always supported our military and the freedom they provide, and it is fitting that we again participate in this worthy endeavor in conjunction with MiLB," said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. "We will carry the caps in our Souvenir Store at Riley Park and online at riverdogs.com."
The RiverDogs are amidst a seven-game homestand and host the Augusta GreenJackets at 7:05pm Thursday and Friday, at 6:05pm on Saturday and Sunday's game begins at 6:35pm.
Ticket information for the RiverDogs homestand and any of the remaining home games can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com. Playoff tickets for Game Two of the South Atlantic League Division Series on Friday, September 9 at The Joe are now available. Those that can't make it to the park can follow every pitch of the RiverDogs season on WTMA 1250 AM and streaming online at riverdogs.com.
