ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies pounded Hickory on Wednesday night, 10-1. Columbia won the final two games of the series, its first series win since June 13-15 (won two of three from Rome). Columbia will be back to .500 with a win on Thursday.
PERFECT 10: Columbia scored 10 runs against Hickory in back-to-back games. It's the first time all season the Fireflies have scored 10 or more in back-to-back nights. Columbia had scored just five runs in the previous three games.
ELECTRIC OFFENSE: Columbia hitters have piled up 28 hits over their last two games.
BASH BROTHERS: Patrick Mazeika and Jeff Diehl recorded 10 total plate appearances on Wednesday. Hickory pitchers were successful retiring the duo just once:
Mazeika: 3-for-4, Grand Slam, 4 RBI, BB
Diehl: 3-for-3, 3-Run Home Run, 4 RBI, 2 BB
THAT'S GRAND: Mazeika's grand slam on Wednesday was the second this season for Columbia. Not surprisingly, Diehl socked the other on May 7 at Greenville.
HATS OFF TO JOSE: The rosters for the MLB Futures Game were announced this week. Manager Jose Leger was named one of the coach's for the World Team. Leger will coach third base in the contest that will take place in San Diego on Sunday, July 10 at 7:05 p.m. ET (MLB Network) - two days before the 2016 All-Star Game. Moises Alou will manage the World Team.
ROSTER MOVE: Starter Tyler Badamo was placed on Columbia's disabled list on Wednesday. The righty was scheduled to start Friday's game in West Virginia. Bryce Beeler - recently promoted to Columbia from the Brooklyn Cyclones - will take his place and make his first professional start.
