Saturday, July 30 - 6:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #63 - Home Game #30 (36-26, 18-11)

LHP #46 BRIAN FOWLER (4-1, 1.90 ERA) vs. LHP #21 DAVID DEMINSKY (2-2, 3.77 ERA)

Last Time Out...

The first place Joliet Slammers (36-26) got another outstanding pitching performance as they beat the Lake Erie Crushers (28-34) by a final score of 5-1 Friday night to sweep the series. This time it was Jake Renshaw (7-4) who dominated the Lake Erie bats as he went eight plus innings to pick up the win. Renshaw held the Crushers to only two hits through his first eight innings of work. The team leader in complete games with two on the year went back to the mound in the ninth looking for his third. But a single, a walk, and a RBI single from Andrew Davis to make the score 5-1 chased Renshaw from the game. But never fear, Joliet native Ryan Quigley was there to come in and nail down his league leading 19th save of the season. Offensively, the Slammers were paced by Josh Flores who scored three runs in the game. Erik Lis picked up two RBI on a couple of sacrifice flies.

For Starters...

Brian Fowler's last start came against the Beach Bums as he got a no-decision in a 4-3 Slammers win. Fowler went five and a third innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits. He walked five and struck out four. Fowler has won his last three decisions and has the lowest ERA in the Slammers' starting rotation. The 6'7'' lefty started this season in the Pecos League with the Roswell Invaders where he went 3-0 with a 2.86 ERA in six appearances, three starts. He's a graduate of Chico State University where he played two years of ball after transferring from Treasure Valley Community College. Fowler hails from Missoula, Montana.

The best of the best...

The Slammers have the lowest ERA in the entire Frontier League at 3.64. In addition, they've held opponents to a league low .237 batting average. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 2.78

Struggling against the beach...

Despite their overall pitching success, the Slammers staff has a 5.22 ERA in 50 innings against the Beach Bums. Meanwhile the offense is only hitting .216 in six games against Traverse City. Overall the Slammers are 2-4 against the Beach Bums.

Ready to open...

The Slammers are 14-7 in series openers this year.

#Winning...

With their win last night the Slammers have set a new season best of ten games over .500 despite not winning more than three consecutive games all year. On the flip side they have not lost more than three straight games either.

Holding on...

The Slammers have been in first place by themselves every day since the end of play on July 8. They had not held first place by themselves at all before then.

Leading after six...

The Slammers are almost unbeatable with a record of 26-1 when leading after six innings.

The team triple crown...

Erik Lis leads the Slammers in batting average (.318), Home Runs (13) and RBI (54).

July is hot...

The Slammers are 17-8 in July, the second best record in the Frontier League behind only the River City Rascals (19-5).

Transaction Wire...
