Joliet Drops Final Game to Evansville
June 21, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Joliet Slammers News Release
(Evansville, IN) - Joliet starter Corey Kimes lasted seven innings but the lefty suffered his fourth loss of the year as Ryan Zamorsky (4-1) out pitched Kimes through seven innings, defeating the Slammers by a final of 3-1.
Kimes allowed two runs to score in the first inning and the Joliet (12-18) offense could not supply enough run support as the Evansville Otters won the three-game series by a final of two games to one.
Kimes settled down after the first inning, shutting out the Otters through the next six innings. Zamorsky for Evansville was very good through the first six as his only mistake of the night was to Michael Wing who put the Slammers on the board in the seventh inning on a solo home run.
John Schultz led off the first inning with a triple for Evansville and then C.J. Henry tripled Schultz home giving the Otters a 1-0 lead. The next batter Frank Martinez grounded out to second base, driving in Henry and extending the Evansville lead to 2-0.
The game remained that way until the seventh when Wing led off the inning for Joliet with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to one run.
However Evansville added one insurance run in the eighth inning making it a 3-1 ballgame, which Joliet could not rally from in the top of the ninth.
The Slammers head back home for a three game set against the Gateway Grizzlies starting Friday. Matt Dillon gets his first professional start for Joliet and he will face JaVaun West (4-1) for Gateway.
First pitch is at 7:05 and the pre game on 1340 WJOL begins at 6:50 p.m. Friday is the highly anticipated return of Disney Night.
