
Braves Purchse Cunniff's Contract

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners have announced they sold the contract of Brandon Cunniff to the Atlanta Braves. Cunniff is the 27th player in the history of the Miners organization to have their contract selected by a major league organization and the second in three days (Tyler Stubblefield). He will be joining the Lynchburg Hillcats, the Braves High-A affiliate.
"We could not be happier for Brandon", said Miners manager Mike Pinto. "There is no doubt that he deserves this opportunity with the Braves. He has been dominant for us all season and we believe he has big things ahead. We appreciate all that he did for us last season in helping us to a championship and the great job he has done all year."
This season Cunniff has continued to be one fo the leagues premier closers as he recorded eight saves in twelve games. He recorded 23 strikeouts in twelve innings pitched. His eight saves are second in the Frontier League.
Cunniff was acquired last season from the River City Rascals in a trade. In 2012, Cunniff pitched in nine games and saved four games. He pitched to a 1-0 record with an ERA of 2.70. He logged ten innings and struck out ten hitters. Cunniff appeared in five games in the postseason, recording four saves. He struck out nine batters in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Cunniff is the all-time saves leader with the Miners as he recorded 16 saves in the regular season and four in the postseason.
Brandon Cunniff joins former Miners Matt Fields (Royals), Max Peterson (White Sox), Tanner Roark (Nationals), Ryan Jones (Angels), Ryan Kussmaul (White Sox), Javier Herrera (Giants) and Stubblefield (Padres) who are actively playing in a major league organization.
The Southern Illinois Miners would like to congratulate Brandon Cunniff as he joins the Atlanta Braves organization.
