Johns Belts Two-Run Walk-Off Homer to Get the Victory

The Sioux City Explorers wrap up their final game of the regular season at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park with a victory in walk-off fashion. Explorers win 7-5 over the Lincoln Saltdogs in ten innings on Thursday night.

Lincoln jumped to a quick 5-0 lead, plating runs in the first and second inning. Austin Gallagher recorded the first run with an RBI single. Four runs crossed in the second inning; off an RBI double by Ryan Wiggins and a three-run homer by Juan Martinez.

Sioux City answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Ino Patron knocked in two runs with an RBI triple, and later scored on a (1-4-3) groundout.

Explorers cut the lead down to one run in the seventh. Michael Lang led-off with a single, moved to second off a Nate Samson base hit, advanced to third on a 6-4-3 DP, and scored off an RBI single by Tim Colwell.

In the bottom of the ninth, Sioux City tied the game. LeVon Washington reached base-on-balls, advanced to second with a stolen base, and scored on an error by the first baseman to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra-innings.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Sioux City sent the crowd home happy. With a runner at first and one out, X's second baseman Bryan Johns smashed a two-run walk-off homer to get the 7-5 victory over Lincoln and wrap-up the final game of the season at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Explorers starter Bryan Escanio had a no decision on the night, giving up five runs in only 4.1 innings pitched. X's right-hander Rob Wort (6-4) received the victory for Sioux City, pitching in the top of the tenth inning.

Lincoln's starter Lyndsey Caughel had a no decision, giving up three runs in five innings. Saltdogs right-hander Evan Reed (3-4) was charged with the loss, givng up three runs (two earned in 1.1 innings pitched.
