Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox announced their Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher for the 2006 season. In his second season with the Rox, DH Guye Senjem was named the Most Valuable Player while RHP John Kelly, acquired in a trade this season was recognized as the Most Valuable Pitcher. Both were awarded during the last regular season home game on Monday, Septemeber 4th.

Senjem, a Minnesota native, began his professional career with the St. Paul Saints in 1997. Before arriving in Brockton in 2005, he spent time in the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies Organizations. He set an early tone for a successful 2006 campaign with a game-winning solo homerun in the 10th inning on Opening Night at Campanelli Stadium. He went on to tie the franchise mark for homeruns in a single season with 14, and led the team in homeruns, and RBI. Twice, the left-handed hitter was named the Can-Am League's Batter of the Week.

"Guye Senjem has been a force in our lineup and clubhouse all season long," said Rox Manager Chris Miyake. "He is a professional hitter who plays hard every game and produces big numbers. Guye is the type of veteran hitter every manager would love to have in this league."

John Kelly was acquired by the Rox in a trade with the New Jersey Jackals in the month of June. The right-handed veteran made an immediate impact, and was nearly perfect after joining the team. He recorded a save in his first appearance, and proceeded to win his first five starts with the Rox. In 15 appearances with Brockton, he was 8-1 with a 1.92 ERA. He posted double-digit victories for the second consecutive season, finishing with 10 wins overall this year.

"John Kelly has been everything we hoped for and more since we traded for him," Miyake said. "He is one of the best starters in the league and competes with all he has every time he is on the mound. He has been a leader on and off the field and is one of the biggest reasons why we are headed to the playoffs."

Just days after he was named team MVP, Brockton Rox DH Guye Senjem was included in the Can-Am League's post-season All-Star Team. Announced by the league this past Thursday, the team was selected by the eight league managers and media representatives. Senjem was selected as the designated hitter of the All-Star Team.
